It is

It is:
glad, righteous, for the righteous,
of man, mine, toward, unseen,
patient, steadfast, glorious,
laid up in heaven, good, eternal,
blessed, firm, fully assured,
lively, continual, set before us,
believed in
against itself,
in God.

It:
perishes, secures,
abounds, abides,
partakes, increases,
consoles, waits quietly,
receives, endures,
comes, purifies,
causes rejoicing,
provides rest,
makes speech plain

It is:
a confidence,
an expectation, a door,
rest, a promise, a calling,
a helmet, a reason, a trust,
a cause, an effect, an action,
a refuge, a substance, a tree
of life, faith, evidence,
life, one,
the Lord.

It is:
hope.

  1. Hope is very diverse. It was hope that kept my brothers wife going through 20 years of cancer to see her son graduate and find direction in life.
All these synonyms of hope...don't mean to be dark but I wonder what their opposites are?
I really need to find some time to integrate into Faith Barista.

  2. Ah Glynn. I just got back from a presentation to a group of police officers -- all of whom have strong opinions about what we do as an agency -- how and where etc.

and finally, after much vocalizing of their opinions and my listening to hear, not judge, I said,

"Out of all we do and how we do it and where, the reality is, if we do nothing else, what we do best is, we keep hope alive.

for those lost to the street and those who have lost someone they love to the street."

    Hope is so vital.

    Thanks Glynn

  3. Hope plays out every day in Haiti, in the schools for girls in Afghanistan, in the hearts of all the families waiting for loved ones to come back from Iraq, in anyone praying, among immigrants coming to the U.S., in those without brave enough to put a hand out, in all of us waiting and looking and working for peace. Hope is the most human of emotions.

  5. o there's light
    - yes there is
    in the
    darkness
    - yes there is
    shining out
    - you can see it shine
    from the
    eyes of hope
    - shining out

    yes, there's light
    in the darkness
    shining out
    from the eyes of hope

  8. I agree with Jerry. Hope is diverse and your poetry here illustrates this literally by the fountain of words you've served up here.

You are both a writer and a hope-filled heart -- how did you come up with so many inspiring pictures of hope?

Two stuck out for me in this moment:

    "continual"
    "helmet"

You are a faithful one, storing up experiences with faith and here is the evidence of such hope.

Thanks for this Master class brew, Glynn!

  9. Loved this. Hope is our everything. When I read the word "comes" it seemed to flood over me... "Hope Comes" it always does, doesn't it?! Beautiful. Thank you!

  10. Glen,
I really liked this. I especially liked the words "it is a door and an expectation".
