Holiday, After Hours

December’s electric fireflies
crowd the night, motionless
mannequinned musicians
perform silent music, soundlessly
empty stone walkways
beckon the vanished, joylessly
beneath flutters of gold and silver
in the spent wind, frozen
I still wait

  2. This reminds me of the family reunions we have....Once every three years on a lake. My family is usually the last ones to leave and an odd feeling of loniliness creeps in. Nice on Glynn.

  5. Conveys an emotional sense of pondering emptiness. Very nicely done, Glynn. Also some great alliteration on the M-sounds in the middle of the poem. Powerful ending as well.

  6. Oh ho! You saw something didn't, and ran with it. You took a picture prompt and noted the absence of sound (not to mention people) to powerful effect. Still waiting. Yeah.

  10. So vivid.

I love the electric fireflies. Even without the image, it's pictured perfectly.

  12. Your poem completely captures the photo. A compression of that empty street, those unwatching gone eyes for a used spectacle. Succinct and crisp, but not foregoing a sort of miasmic emotional afterglow...nice.
