There is a time when
laughter.
There is a day when
celebration.
There is a moment when
oneness.
There is an eternity when
separation.

oh that last line has a bit of a sting...but there is a time...
ReplyDeleteYou capture so much, Glynn, with so few words. Time. Day. Moment. Eternity. Keep the poems coming.
ReplyDeletethanks.
Oh, this is good. A catalogue poem?
ReplyDeleteThe sentence structure play here is subtle, but that's what I like best. Each when seems to prepare us for something more than an idea without actors. And I think that is what makes the poem feel so universal.
ReplyDeletePowerful piece... a bit of a pang there at the end. Nice form.
ReplyDeleteGreat poem. The last line says so much—makes me think of that recognition when one confronts self in contemplating what went wrong. Outstanding.
ReplyDeleteso true - there is an eternity when separation..deep and thoughtful take on the prompt glynn
ReplyDeleteYes. There is.
ReplyDeletePowerful poem Glynn -- I got prompted to write a poem too!
this speaks to many people,
ReplyDeleteinstances in life,
and hard truth.
it is worded keenly,
flows effortlessly,
to an unending end.
it can be read
again and again
and found within
different forms
of relative.
word
rhyme
poetry
feeling
meaning
action in time
and then
an eternity
of not the joining
not the happy reunion
but
the separation
that will be
for many
forever
Very few words, but each word meaningful. I can relate!
ReplyDeletebeautiful...but that last line...so powerful in its meaning...a great write my friend..pete
ReplyDeleteHmmm. I'm sitting on my cozy couch cuddled with the dogs. It's chill outside and a football game is on the tube. We had church this morning and will have a special service tonight. This season feels full of hope and emptied out at the same time.
ReplyDeleteSome how your words capture all these things this afternoon, Glynn.
I agree with Laura. November feels empty and full at the same time...like the seasons of life. Your thoughtful-provoking poem inspired me to write my own. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYour poetry is full-bodied in it's brevity ...
ReplyDeleteCataloguing the complex.
ReplyDeleteSigh...yes, so true.
ReplyDeleteCommenting late as we were out all day.
ReplyDeleteEven without the image this would be thought-provoking. It calls up so many different meanings.
eternity is too long...for separation from love and life and my creator...nice write, great thoughts....bkm
