Old shoes, thick laces:
toes scuffed, soles worn;
belt, braided:
waist-stretched,
sometimes shrunken;
t-shirt: yellow leaning
to white, Birmingham
Sweet Home Alabama;
Bible, tan leather cover:
hand-imprint faded,
sweat-stained,
pages smudged, marked.

A lot of comforting items listed.
ReplyDeleteAre you from Bham? Somehow I did not know that. I'm sitting in downtown Bham as I type this.
The older I get, the more I crave those "comfortable" items. Like the shoes, the sweater, the same disc.
ReplyDeleteAh. This was a sweet poem of comfort
Thanks for the simple joy and comfort of this poem. Just beautiful. You made me feel it. Thanks Glynn.
