This
landscape bleak:
stunted
trees scrubbing
low
hillsides, or clustering
in
small groves in gentle
service
to shade
each
other. Clutches
of
prickly pear boldface
the
grass golden in autumn
splendor,
covering rocks
and
stones dropped by giants,
or
less. All fenced by wire
not
to keep intruders out
but
to keep the cattle in.
Except
for the fences
it
might be the road
to
Bethlehem.
