Bluff at sunrise

The sunrise edges across
the bluff, a slow tear
emerging from the clouds,
clouds like smoke, smoke
rushing, failing to stop
the tear, cast aside
like yesterday’s war,
the beauty stark
in the desolation
of a thousand days,
a thousand years.

This poem is submitted to the Open Link Night at dVerse Poets. The links will be live at 2 p.m. Central time today.

I found this so moving, Glynn, especially after witnessing two gorgeous sunrises in the mountains last week. Your words describe the photo perfectly!
Blessings!

Nice images, Glynn. I see it. I read it. I imagine it.

so very beautiful Glynn... I hope you will consider joining me and many others for this year's gratitude quilt. you can learn more about it by reading the top of my blog. It would be lovely to see your words included... it is not a place for poetry... but an opportunity to express what you are grateful for in a single moment.

The words and photo make an indelible image--the language is pure music, or pure painting, or perhaps both. I especially like the ambiguity of time in the final lines.

Great imagery and powerful emotion. The poem is gripping. And it leaves the reader seeking closure--which adds power to the expression.
