The Elements

The last night
the final time
the ending glimmer of the sun
slipping into darkness

water bread wine

water to clean
water to wash
water to serve
the baptism of servanthood
a new covenant I give you
water to wash to serve to clean
even wash the feet of those
who betray you no greater love
than this

the bread take eat
bread to sustain
bread to nourish
bread broken the body broken
for you man does not live
by bread alone
feed the thousands with bits
of bread do this in remembrance
always forever

wine to drink take drink
wine to enjoy wine from water
the best saved for last
wine to lull and quiet
wine to relax wine to anticipate
the blood, the red poured
upon the stones the dirt smearing
the air in the scourging
the trickles of blood thorned
down the face all anticipating
remember the wine the blood
in remembrance of me

do this always love one another
as I have loved you even
to death

Thank you for your Holy Week poems, Glynn.

How you interweave the words from Communion is moving.
