Sunday: The Women

The women went first
to see, no one cares
about women, they’re
not the then-twelve
now-eleven
the lowly things don’t count
the last shall be first
the first find nothing
but a being, a voice glowing
the one is gone, vanished
the sought, vanished
a roaring absence
a glorious theft
from death.

Painting: Women at the Tomb by William Bourguereau.

What a wonderful emphasis on "the women" who at Easter go first unto the tomb to make the discovery. This poem raises from the quiet the astonishment and the joy.

Glynn, I loved the idea of the last becoming the first. Thank Jesus for that!

Thank you, Glynn, for sharing this poem. Encouraging that the women of no account in those days were exalted to the front of the line. Resurrection blessings to you!

Glorious theft from death. That captures the essense. I too am thankful the women went first...they have a way to get to the point of "being in the moment" much easier.
