After all these times

After Ecclesiastes 3:9-15

After all these times
the preacher speaks,
asking a non-rhetorical
question: what’s the point?
What does the worker
gain from work? Ashes to ashes
and dust to dust, and what
does it get you but dust,
and ashes? And the preachers
says more: God lays a burden
on men (on us; don’t take
this gender stuff literally),

Everything is beautiful,
not in its own way
but in its own time
because it’s made that way.
It is.
