Only a stone

After I Samuel 17:26-37, 43-49

His job is simple:

the delivery boy,

too young to fight,

assigned to bring

food to his brothers

set for battle. The boy

hears the taunts,

the champion’s insults,

ridiculing the army,

ridiculing his God,

then ridiculing him.

a mere boy. And

the mere boy knows

the one who wins

battles also owns

this battle, and he

places the stone

in his sling, winds

up, and let’s go.

It’s only a stone,

but a stone powered

by more than a boy’s

arm, a stone that is

the rock.
