Is it that simple

After Luke 11: 5-13

Ask, seek, knock.
Is it that simple?
That’s all – three simple acts?
Ask for help.
Seek the help.
Knock: a hand raised
to a door.

the ask begets a gift
the seek begets a find
the knock begets an opened door

ask seek knock
the door opens
the wind blows
the answer comes

is it really that simple

Loaves at midnight

After Luke 11:5-13

Midnight. A knock.
A voice, not insistent yet firm.
Food. Some basics.
Nothing fancy or involved.
Just bread, if you have it.
Just bread, for a friend,
a friend on a journey.
And a grumbled no.
Go away. It’s midnight.
I’m in bed. Don’t bother me.
Do you know what time it is.

The plea is heard.
Heeded finally.
Loaves handed over.
Still grumbling.

Ask.
Seek,
Knock.
