I don’t do New Year’s resolutions. I’m not sure why; I don’t mind other people doing them but for some reason I’ve never gotten into the idea. I set goals, but not generally at this time of the year. It may be that my sense of time over the years has become more circular than linear. Or maybe not.
But I do have some intentions.
To be a better husband.
To enjoy and totally spoil the first grandbaby.
To see my youngest graduate from college.
To write more poetry.
To read more poetry.
To read more poetry aloud to my wife.
To write more. And do something with what’s sitting there finished on the computer.
To do more of these: encourage, honor, respect.
To pray more, and pray first.

i think with me...it's the word.
resolutions.
it sounds yucky.
hard.
like throwing a bolder.
intentions
sounds...pretty.
soft.
like lighting a candle.
better than
resolving
that seems too
final
better than
making goals
that are set
too high
yes, intending
to wish to
plan to do to
achieve to
continue
all these things
that bring you
closer and then
closer still
to what matters
most to Him
I've already broken the one I made ... made in a sorta kind of way ... not too resolute I guess ... yes, intention sounds much better ... leaves room for grace
I love the idea of intentions rather than resolutions. I'm not a huge resolution person, but my intention this year is to be less fearful.
Happy New Year!
A very good list indeed.
These intentions are great!
Best wishes as you take steps to make them happen.
Yes, intentions. I like that. I've many of those. And your final two are on my list too.
I leave the resolutions to a single day at a time. "Today I will get up before dawn," might happen. "I will get up before dawn for the rest of my life!" won't.
To read more poetry aloud to my wife.
If you do that, I think you'll easily fulfill that first intention.
I'm pretty fussy about words. I do so like "intentions."
