The oneness, torn

The oneness, once torn
by a spirit seeking
justice, was lost.
He chose and clutched
the dagger offered;
she found solace only
at the bottom of the pool.
He loved her less
than the desire for revenge;
she loved him more
than the desire for life.
Only in death could
oneness be found.

This poem is submitted for the painting prompt at Magpie Tales. The painting is Ophelia by Odilion Redon.
