Hope, Blinking

For Cameron

It is a small thing, really,
this small speck of
life, like a mustard
seed, like a faith
beginning; like a hope,
this small thing.

This small thing grows.
It develops, it
moves, it hears, it
shapes and it is shaped;
it takes form, it
gains strength.

Then, it is. This hope, this
desire, this promise, this
possibility become
possible, this theoretical
become real. And it
lies in my arms, blinking.

I'm having tears over this. Nothing like a new one in your arms. I'll never get over that feeling.

Oh goodness you've got me crying. This reminds me so much of some of the poetry my dad has written for me. Beautiful beautiful. A treasure for your grandson.

Nothing like a grandbaby to bring grandparents to the place of giddy, gushing, uninhibited love.

And your son--how is he?

I do believe we have a smitten grandpa on our hands ... and that is precious, indeed. :-)
