After Luke 14:1-11
They’re always there,
always watching,
carefully looking
for the smallest error,
for the slightest misstep,
for any opening to reject,
to ridicule, to pounce.
He was watching, more closely
than expected, for the trap, the snare,
seeing it clearly when it came,
and he posed questions
they don’t answer, questions
they cannot answer, questions
simple and direct, answers
so obvious, and they knew
they had ensnared themselves.
