Says the prodigal

After Luke 15:11-32

Says the prodigal:

I have sinned against heaven

I have sinned before you

Reality breaks through:

I have sinned against heaven

I have sinned before you

The prodigal son says that but

he wasn’t the first to say that

the first was pharaoh

as the plagues rained down

reality broke through for a time

for pharaoh, for the prodigal

Pharoah knew

all rulers know

all prodigals know

even when blinded

they know

we know because

we are pharaoh

we are the prodigal

we are the parable

and the father runs forward

arms opened wide

in spite of
