The news is looking up

All I did was walk
to the end of the driveway
to get the newspapers
(you find the news
by looking down) when
I chanced to glance
upward to see ribs
of purple blue punctuated
by white, and could read
another newspaper,
with all the news
that is fit.

This poem is submitted for The High Calling’s November photoplay and poetry, with the prompt of taking a photo and writing a poem by lying on your back and looking up. To see more poems submitted, visit the poetry wall at the T.S. Poetry Press Facebook page.

Photograph: Cloudy sky at sunrise, by the poet. Yes, the grass was cold and wet.

love those moments... sometimes we need to look for them in our busy day

Just stopping and looking a little can show us such great moments, nice capture.

Really do look like ribs, those clouds--pictures are a great unlocker of words.

The headlines and bold titles can tell us all we need to know. thanks for sharing the pic as well (even though the grass was cold and wet ~)

Wow, someone who still reads a stain-the-hands-with-ink paper!

you know, looking up is a great thing...the world is so much bigger than what is deemed news as well...

I miss so much when I walk looking down at my feet!
A lovely photo with an equally lovely poem Glynn.

I love the comparison of looking down at the newspaper (which is so negative) and looking up to the heavens for the positive!

I love this, Glynn.

Comes a perceptive observer encounters a random moment . . . Voila!

It's a lovely paradox . . . something from above prodding while you were looking down.

I like your poems.

Cheers!

Yes Glynn, I like this. And where does our help come from but by looking up.

Hi Glynn

A very interesting verse... out there the universe is what makes us all what we are ... just a speck of dirt, that no news paper can and will write about ...

Love your closing lines: "another newspaper,/with all the news/that is fit." It's enough, isn't it? God's take on the world. His word about His people, His world. It is indeed "all the news that is fit."
